ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's soccer team hosted Nazareth University on Saturday afternoon as the teams played to a scoreless draw on Carp Wood Field.
Â
The Bombers came out strong, generating a scoring opportunity within the opening minute as
Ava Detorie's shot was blocked. Just minutes later, Detorie fired again from outside the box, but Nazareth goalkeeper Delaney Malone made the save. After a stretch of back-and-forth play,
Kaelyn Fernandez tested Malone in the 30th minute, forcing another stop.
Â
Sophie White had a pair of promising chances from the top of the box, with her first shot deflected and the second sailing high. Nazareth's first real opportunity came in the 42nd minute, but
Katrina Varnum handled the shot with ease and followed up with another save off a corner kick.
Â
Ithaca opened the second half with a flurry of attempts from
Margo Kasenchar,
Ella Shorkey, Fernandez, and Detorie, but none found the back of the net. Nazareth responded with a counterattack, but Varnum stood tall once again.
Â
Shorkey nearly broke the deadlock in the 71st minute, sending a shot just over the crossbar.
Jayne Bogle found space 18 yards out but couldn't get a clean strike on goal. Moments later, Varnum made a diving save to deny Nazareth on a rolling shot.
Â
In the final minute,
Zara Nourie nearly delivered the game-winner with a header off a free kick, but the attempt drifted wide left. The match ended in a 0-0 draw, marking Ithaca's first tie of the season.
Â
Katrina Varnum finished with five saves, and the Bombers outshot Nazareth 19–7, including four shots on goal.
Ithaca now stand at 3-1-1 overall and return to action on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. when the team travel to Scranton, Pa. to square off against the University of Scranton in a non-conference game.
