Ursinus Tops No. 20 Field Hockey, 2-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Ithaca College field hockey team suffered their first defeat of the regular season on Sunday, August 31st on the road against Ursinus College by a score of 2-1. This brings IC's record to 1-1 on the young season and 1-2 all-time against Ursinus.

Despite the loss, it was the Bombers who got out in front early. At the 9:57 mark of the first quarter junior midfielder Audrey McMahon notched her first goal of the season off an assist from junior defender Nicole Kornweiss. This was Kornweiss' first point in her collegiate career.

After securing an early lead in the first, the Bombers struggled to gain any momentum offensively. They had a total of 14 shots, with six being on goal, but the Bear's senior goalkeeper Adriana Palladinetti posted a strong showing in goal, with a save percentage of over 80 percent.

For the Bombers, it was junior goalkeeper Maeve Clark who played the entirety of the contest. She allowed two goals on the Bear's seven shots on net, securing five saves on the afternoon.

The Bears notched their first goal early in the second quarter at the 16:50 mark. Senior defender Rachel Buono scored off an assist from junior forward Marie Brainyard. Brainyard had both assists for the Bears this afternoon, getting her second in the third quarter at the 36:17 mark, this time it was forward/midfielder Kirsten Johnson who found the back of the net. Johnson led both teams with five shots and three shots on goal this game.

This goal by Johnson would ultimately seal the deal for the Bears. Other key players for the Bombers today include junior striker Ainsley Grant, senior midfielder Eliza Ballaro, junior striker Caroline Folan and junior midfielder/defender Abby Hennessy who all had two shots, leading the Bombers in the stat.

The Bombers will return in Pennsylvania for their next contest when they look to get back in the win column against Misericordia University on September 3.
