Ithaca Men’s Lacrosse Hangs Tough with No. 3 RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's lacrosse team fell to the No. 3 RIT Tigers, 9-4, on the road Wednesday night. The Bombers now hold an 8-5 overall record and are 2-2 in Liberty League play.

The Bombers started strong with Tim Rogers scoring less than two minutes into the game, assisted by Kyle Savery. However, RIT quickly equalized just 20 seconds later.

Three minutes into the first quarter, Andrew Minard made a crucial save to keep the game tied. With six minutes remaining in the quarter, RIT took their first lead with a bouncing shot past Minard. The Tigers extended their lead in the final moments of the first quarter when Clifford Gaston scored from behind the net.

Lucas Proctor had a chance to bring the Bombers within one while a man-up, but his diving shot went just wide. Minard made two impressive saves shortly after to keep the Bombers close. The remainder of the half saw strong defensive play from both teams, leaving the score at 3-1 in favor of RIT.

The Bombers opened the second half with an unassisted goal from Rogers, his second of the game, cutting RIT's lead in half. Midway through the third quarter, Ithaca tied the game at three while a man-up, with Jack Pastore assisting Jack Gianuzzi for the goal. However, RIT quickly responded with two goals in under two minutes, reclaiming the lead at 5-3.

RIT extended their lead to three goals early in the third quarter and added three more goals in under three minutes to make it 9-3. Jack Pastore scored for Ithaca with about five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, making it 9-4.

Kyle Savery had a late chance for the Bombers, but his shot was stopped by the goalkeeper with just over two minutes left in the game. Andrew Minard notched 16 saves, his most within a Liberty League match.
