St. Lawrence Holds Off Ithaca in Liberty League Showdown

CANTON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's lacrosse team faced a tough Liberty League matchup against St. Lawrence University on Saturday afternoon. Following a 9-4 loss to No. 3 RIT on Wednesday, the Bombers found themselves in another defensive battle, ultimately falling to the Saints, 10-9. With this loss, Ithaca's record stands at 8-6 overall and 2-3 in the Liberty League, while St. Lawrence improved to 8-4 and 3-1 in conference play.

The first quarter saw both teams trading goals within the first five minutes. Kyle Savery opened the scoring for Ithaca with his 20th goal of the season, responding to Jamie Rosenzweig's goal for St. Lawrence. Just 42 seconds later, Lucas Proctor assisted Ethan Adrid, who scored to put Ithaca ahead 2-1. Daniel Mahoney quickly tied the game at 2-2 with an unassisted goal. Both teams' defenses then tightened up, leading to several turnovers. Rosenzweig scored again with just seven seconds remaining in the quarter, giving St. Lawrence a 3-2 lead.

After a successful clear by the Bombers, Ithaca drew a St. Lawrence penalty. On the ensuing free possession, Graham Brady scored, assisted by Kyle Savery. Ithaca nearly capitalized on the man-up chance, but Savery's shot missed the target. The Saints killed off another man-up opportunity and, on the fast break, Andrew Minard denied a shot attempt from Bobby Bartlett. St. Lawrence extended their lead to 4-3 when Cam Croasdaile scored with a bouncing shot. David Herilhy added another goal with 1:37 left in the quarter, giving the Saints a 5-3 lead.

The Bombers dominated faceoffs in the first half, winning 7-of-11. This trend continued in the third quarter, leading to a saved shot by Lucas Proctor. Proctor later scored his 19th goal of the season at the 10:38 mark, putting Ithaca on the board first in the second half.

With a man-up opportunity after an unreleasable penalty by Marinello, Tim Rogers scored to tie the game at 5-5. Chris Sohl won possession on the next faceoff by kicking the ball to Jared Sedlock, who collected the ground ball. With 20 seconds left on the shot clock, Tim Rogers assisted Lucas Proctor, who scored to give Ithaca a 6-5 lead. The Saints responded with back-to-back goals, the last scored by Daniel Mahoney.

The seesaw battle continued with Jack Giaunnuzzi scoring after a feed from Jack Pastore, tying the game at 7-7. The Saints went on a quick 2-0 run, but it was halted when Kyle Proctor assisted on a goal scored 19 seconds after a Corey White faceoff win. Cam Croasdaile scored again to make it 10-8 in favor of the Saints, but Ithaca responded with a man-up goal by Kyle Savery, assisted by Rogers. With 1:13 remaining, the Bombers had another 30-second extra-man chance, but the St. Lawrence defense held firm, forcing a shot clock violation.

Lucas Proctor, Kyle Savery and Tim Rogers each finished with two goals apiece. Chris Sohl collected a team-high four groundballs and went 11-of-19 in faceoffs.

Next up, Ithaca will battle No. 19 Cortland on Wednesday, April 7 p.m. in Cortland, N.Y. The Red Dragons are 11-2 overall after defeating SUNY Canton on Saturday.
