No. 12 Brockport Pulls Away Late to Down Ithaca, 8-3

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College baseball team hosted No. 12 Brockport in what was IC's regular season finale at Freeman Field on Tuesday afternoon and the Bombers wound up on the wrong end of an 8-3 outcome. IC heads into the Liberty League Crossover Series with an overall record of 22-13.

Brockport loaded the bases to start the top of the second inning  and jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Danny Drotos as the Golden Eagles plated a pair of runs on a base hit down the left field line.

The Bombers were able to get a run back in the bottom half of the inning as Matt Curtis led off with a double and later scored on an RBI single by Ryan Laubscher to make the score 2-1.

In the top of the fourth, Brockport put two more runs on the board with a two-out rally to take a 4-1 lead. After a double and run-scoring single, IC went to the bullpen and turned to John Griffin. The next batter singled to left-center, but a misplay in the outfield allowed the second run of the inning to score.

Ithaca pulled back to within a run, 4-3, in the bottom of the fifth inning on an opposite field two-run home run off the bat of Ethan McDonough with Collin Feeney on base.

The momentum was quickly erased as Brockport scored twice in the top of the sixth on a dropped fly ball to make it 6-3. Another run scored in the eighth and a solo home run in the top of the ninth accounted for the 8-3 final.

IC threatened in the bottom of the ninth by loading the bases but were unable to push any runs across.

Ithaca will play Vassar in the Crossover Series beginning with a single game on Friday. The two teams will meet again for at least one game on Saturday for a trip to the Liberty League Tournament next weekend. If the Bombers win the Crossover Series, they will host the tournament as well.
