ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College Baseball team plated four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Hobart College, 7-4, on Senior Day at Freeman Field Friday afternoon. The Bombers will now head to Geneva on Sunday to conclude the three-game series and wrap up Liberty League regular season play.
The win improves IC's overall record to 21-11 on the season and secures the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Liberty League Crossover Series. The Bombers are also in position to host the Liberty League Championship should they win the Crossover Series next weekend.
Jack Picozzi started on the mound for the Bombers and got off to a rocky start, giving up two runs on two hits in the first inning, but settled in from there and went on to toss 6.0 innings with four strikeouts with one earned run allowed on five hits.
The Bomber bats got  on the board in the bottom of the third as
Ryan Laubscher led off with a hit by pitch and
Riley Brawdy stroked a triple to center field to make the score 2-1.
Ethan McDonough then tied the game with a base hit to right field to bring home Brawdy.
Sean Kelly entered in relief in the top of the seventh with one runner on and Hobart proceeded to score two runs on two hits with an error to regain the lead at 4-2.
In the bottom of the seventh, Laubscher doubled to center field to lead off the inning and then moved to third on a passed ball A sacrifice fly from Brawdy brought in Laubscher for a 4-3 score.
Jack Colyer was next out of the bullpen in the eighth and he kept Hobart scoreless with a strikeout as the score remained 4-3.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Bombers exploded for four runs to take a 7-4 lead, despite only picking up one hit.
Ethan Fantel led off with a walk and pinch ran for by
Colin Dunn, who immediately stole second.
Matt Curtis then hit a sharp ground ball that the Hobart shortstop wouldn't be able to handle, allowing Dunn to score from second to tie the game at 4-4.
Collin Feeney kept the inning going with a walk to put runners on first and second with no outs and
Ethan Daddabbo laid down a sacrifice bunt. An intentional walk to
Camden Laney loaded the bases to set up an RBI groundout by Laubscher, which plated Curtis, to give Ithaca their first lead of the game at 5-4. A two-run single from Brawdy brought in Feeney and
Zack Sperger to cap off the inning and extend IC's lead to 7-4.
Colyer shut the door in the ninth for his fifth win of the year.
Sunday's doubleheader begins at 12 p.m.
