Baseball Earns 7-6 Walk-Off Win Over Cortland

Ithaca, N.Y. - The Ithaca College baseball team took down SUNY Cortland by a 7-6 score as the Bombers prevailed on a walk-off walk at Freeman Field on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, IC reached the 20-win mark and is 20-11 on the season.

The Bombers got off to a hot start in the first inning, scoring one run via an Andrew McDermott single and an RBI single from Ethan Fantel.

Ethan Murley started on the mound for IC and threw two scoreless innings before Danny Drotos entered in relief in the third inning. Drotos surrendered one run in his two innings of work in the top of the third to tie the game at 1-1.

Cortland then plated two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to build a 5-1 advantage, but IC answered in the bottom of the sixth with three runs to cut its deficit to 5-4.

Fantel led off with a walk, Collin Feeney followed with a single to center field and Logan Scully also drew a free pass to load the bases. Tyler Pugliese earned the third walk of the inning to bring home Fantel to make the score 5-2 and then Ryan Laubscher doubled to right field to score Feeney and Scully for the 5-4 difference.

The Red Dragons got a run back in the top of the seventh inning to make it 6-4, but Ithaca plated three runs in the bottom of the ninth to secure the 7-6 walk-off win.

After the first out was retired, Ethan McDonough and Fantel reached on base hits. A walk to Matt Curtis loaded the bases and then Feeney ripped a double to right field to plate McDonough and pinch runner Colin Dunn to tie the game at 6-6. An intentional walk to pinch hitter Camden Laney loaded the bases once again and the game came to an end as Ethan Daddabbo drew another walk and Sheldon Jay Walker III scored the winning run.

Sean Kelly picked up the win as he tossed the final 1.2 innings of relief to improve to 4-1 on the season.

The Bombers will face Hobart in a three-game set this weekend starting Friday, April 25th in Ithaca at 4 p.m. for Senior Day.
