ITHACA, N.Y. – In a game full of momentum swings, the Ithaca College men's lacrosse team secured an impressive victory over the University of Scranton Royals with a final score of 15-10 on Saturday afternoon. The Bombers improved to 3-2 on the season, while Scranton fell to 0-6.
Despite the win, the Bombers had a rocky start as Scranton came out strong, especially in transition. The Royals, who had struggled offensively all season, jumped out to a four-goal lead within the first eight minutes, with Quinn Carson scoring three for a first-quarter hat trick. Ithaca took a timeout to regroup, and it paid off.
Lucas Proctor,
Sam Baker, and
Jack Pastore led the charge, cutting the Royals' lead to 5-4 by the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter began with a goal from
Kyle Savery, tying the game at 5-5. However, Jason Kozak quickly responded for Scranton, putting them back in the lead. Scranton scored two of the next three goals, taking advantage of some sloppy Ithaca defense and turnovers, and led 8-6 at halftime.
Head coach
Tommy Pearce had the team fired up coming out of the break, and it showed. The Bombers played their best quarter of the season in the third, scoring eight goals to Scranton's one, and took a commanding 14-9 lead. Ithaca began the quarter on a 5-0 run with goals from
Kyle Savery,
Jack Pastore,
Cullen Adams, Pastore again, and
Tim Rogers.
The fourth quarter was a stalemate, with each team scoring one more goal, leading to the final score of 15-10.
Jack Pastore had a career day, netting four goals and an assist, while
Lucas Proctor continued his impressive season with three goals.
Chris Sohl dominated faceoffs, winning 18-of-20, and
Andrew Minard made five saves in the win.
Ithaca's next game is on Tuesday, March 11, at 4 p.m. when they host Hartwick College at Higgins Stadium.
