EWING, N.J. – It turned out to be a tight matchup on Saturday between the Ithaca College women's tennis team and The College of New Jersey as the Bombers ended up earning the 4-3 victory. The non-conference win has the Bombers at 4-5 overall and was clinched in singles play as Ithaca reversed its fortunes after dropping the doubles point.
TCNJ took each of the doubles matches including Zoey Albert and Shruti Mannan edging
Taylor Crain and
Sabrina Cheung, 7-5. Ithaca would then turn it around winning the first three singles matches to take the 3-1 lead, including Crain defeating Albert 6-0, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7) on the No. 1 court. At No. 2 singles,
Alys Pop defeated Aira Abalos by set scores of 7-5, 6-0 and
Sabrina Cheung took down Shruti Mannan 7-6, 6-2 (7-2).
The clinching team point was won at No. 5 singles by Ithaca's
Madeleine Sutro. The sophomore had a tough three set match and was able to defeat Elizabeth Ring 6-5, 5-7 and 1-0 (10-8).
The Bombers will remain on the road and will have a quick turnaround in a match at New York University that will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
