ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team completed the three-game Liberty League sweep of St. Lawrence on Saturday at Freeman Field as the Bombers posted an 11-1 victory to enforce the 10-run rule after seven innings. Ithaca is now 9-7 on the season and 3-0 in the Liberty League.
Ethan Murley earned the start for the Bombers and turned in a solid outing, only allowing one run on three hits and seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched. Murley fanned six batters over the first three innings of his start.
The Bomber bats continued their hot streak in this game starting in the bottom of the second inning.
Ryan Laubscher would start it out by getting hit by a pitch and
Sheldon Jay Walker III singled to put runners on first and second.
Tyler Pugliese followed with an RBI single to plate Laubscher and give IC a 1-0 lead. Pugliese and Walker moved up on a balk and
Riley Brawdy drew a walk to load the bases, setting up
Andrew McDermott with a three-run double to right field to extend the Ithaca lead to 4-0.
Ithaca tacked on another run in the bottom of the third as
Camden Laney ripped a double and later came around to score on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.
Ithaca would continue scoring in the bottom of the fourth as Brawdy stroked a triple to center and McDermott drove home Brawdy with a base hit to extend the lead to 6-0. Later in the inning,
Ethan McDonough crossed the plate on a Laney RBI single for a 7-0 difference.
In the bottom of the sixth, McDonough drew a walk, stole second and moved to third on a Laney single and then
Max Salerno earned an RBI by reaching a fielder's choice to score McDonough and give IC an 8-1 edge.
Collin Feeney would then hit an RBI triple to center field, scoring Salerno and
Matt Curtis followed with an RBI base hit to bring home Feeney for a 10-1 score.
Danny Drotos entered in relief in the seventh inning and set down the Saints in order with two strikeouts.
Pugliese led off the seventh with a single and Brawdy followed with a double to put both runners in scoring position. An intentional walk to McDermott loaded the bases with no outs. After two outs were recorded, Salerno worked a walk to bring in Brawdy for the game-winning run.
The Bombers head to Rochester on Monday, March 24
th to take on St. John Fisher at 3:30 p.m.
