Women’s Tennis Opens Up Spring Break Trip with Two-Straight Wins

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team opened up its spring break trip with a pair of 7-0 shutout victories over both Wittenberg University on Wednesday and Franciscan University on Thursday.
 
Against Wittenberg, the Bombers were able to earn the doubles point by sweeping each of the matchups. In the No. 1 slot Taylor Crain and Sabrina Cheung combined for a 6-4 victory over Caroline Sproule and Sydney Purks. Both Alys Pop and Ava Casell-Lapetina as well as Eliana Chelnick and Aenessa Rylski won their respective matches by a score of 6-1.
 
Rylski was able to double bagel her opponent Carissa Schroeder by set scores of 6-0, 6-0. Other impressive singles wins included Madeleine Sutro defeating Elisabeth Josellis (6-1, 6-1) and at No. 4 singles Lauren Rodriguez defeated her opponent by scores of 6-0, 6-1. In the top spot, Taylor Crain defeated Caroline Sproule 6-4, 6-2 and Alys Pop followed suit in defeating Sydney Purks by scores of 6-2, 6-5.
 
The Bombers then would compete at the Racquet Club of Cocoa Beach where they matched up against Franciscan University. Ithaca earned the doubles point over the Barons, by winning two out of the three matches. Alys Pop and Ava Casell-Lapetina teamed in the No. 1 spot and took down Claire Cardie and Kina Ehlers by a 6-3 score. The other Bombers win was at No. 3 where Eliana Chelnick and Aenessa Rylski defeated their opponents by a 6-2 score.
 
Ithaca would again sweep singles play for the second-straight day and would do so by winning each match in straight sets. Taylor Crain was ultra-impressive in defeating Elizabaeth Swift by scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Alys Pop and Sabrina Cheung would win their respective matches by the same scores and at No. 4 singles Madeleine Sutro defeated Anna Glen, 6-2 and 6-0. Ava Casell-Lapetina was able to hold her opponent Elizabeth Suess scoreless winning 6-0, 6-0.
 
With the pair of wins, Ithaca improved to 3-3 overall. The Bombers will wrap up their spring trip on Friday when they take on Connecticut College at 8 a.m.
