WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Ithaca College baseball team
has kicked off their season on Saturday with a 3-2 win over Stevens Institute of Technology at the Nationals Youth Academy on our nation's capital on Saturday evening.
For the first three innings,
Colin Leyner and Erik Sibbach kept the score at zero on the mound, until the fourth inning when Ithaca opened up the scoring in the bottom half after
Logan Scully doubled down the right field line and
Andrew McDermott singled to put runners on first and second,
Ryan Laubscher reached on an error to load the bases and
Riley Brawdy lifted a sac fly to plate McDermott.
In the top of the fifth Stevens got on the board with a homerun by Evan Pravato to make the score 1-1.
Then in the bottom of the fifth
Collin Feeney hits a triple to center field and
Ethan McDonough hits a double to bring in Feeney and put the Bombers ahead 2-1.
Stevens got that run back in the top of the sixth when Victor Schilleci walked then Chip Krese lays down a sac bunt to advance Schilleci advances to second then third on a wild pitch. Then Garret Wolf singles up the middle to drive in Schilleci to tie up the score 2-2.
But immediately following that inning Brawdy answered with a homerun to right field to put the Bombers up 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth.
In the top of the seventh,
John Griffin came in relief of Leyner and sets Stevens down in order. Once Griffin came into the game, he held Stevens quiet for the remainder of the game picking up the save.
McDermott and Feeney both had multi-hit games and Brawdy and McDonough combined for three RBIs.
Leyner picked up the win, firing six innings with six strikeouts two walks while allowing two earned runs, Griffin picked up the save throwing three innings and getting six strikeouts while only surrendering two hits and Justin Doyle took the loss giving up the homerun to Brawdy in his three and a third innings of work in this 3-2 Ithaca Bombers win.
Ithaca takes on No. 2 Salve Regina tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
