Isaias Torres Crowned Champion at New Standard Invitational; Bombers Finish Fourth as Team

YORK, Pa. – The No. 17-ranked Ithaca College men's wrestling team competed in the weekend-long New Standard Corporation Invitational hosted by York College, concluding on Saturday. The Bombers delivered a strong team effort, finishing fourth with 111 team points behind first-place North Central (129.5), Washington & Lee (125.5), and Ursinus (118.5).
 
Senior Isaias Torres, the top seed at 141 pounds, continued his dominant run by claiming the title with two victories on Saturday. Torres impressed with a 9-2 decision over Ursinus's Andrew Schaen, scoring eight points in the second period, including a takedown and near fall. In the championship match, he edged out No. 2 seed Skyler Hickman of Washington & Lee with a 4-2 decision to secure the crown.
 
Xavier Pommells returned to South Hill with a strong second-place finish at 184 pounds. Pommells went 2-1 on Saturday, starting with a pin in 4:31 over Johnson & Wales's Barron Ranson. He followed with a 9-4 decision over Ursinus's Nils Updale before falling to Sean Malenfant in the championship bout. Eamon Callaghan, after dropping his quarterfinal, rallied with three consecutive wins in the consolation bracket, including two pins and an 8-0 major decision over Luke Theis of TCNJ. He ultimately placed fifth after an 8-1 loss to Updale in the third-place match.
 
At 133 pounds, Jay McDonnell upset nationally ranked No. 10 Vincent Ziccardi on Friday and finished fourth overall. The sophomore went 1-1 on Saturday, narrowly losing 4-1 in the semifinal to TCNJ's Garret Totten but rebounded with a 12-3 major decision over Washington & Lee's Calvin Wiedemer to claim fourth place.
 
Akio Sanders earned third place at 157 pounds, defeating Washington & Lee's Noah Danforth 17-8 in a major decision. Sanders went undefeated on Saturday with four wins, including two bonus-point victories.
 
Charlie Turner and Kamdyn Dorchester also scored for the Bombers, placing fourth and fifth, respectively. Turner lost a close 2-1 decision but bounced back with a 7-4 win over Washington & Lee's Kweku Arthur-Mensah in the consolation semifinal. Dorchester defeated the Generals' heavyweight 2-1 in overtime in his final bout.
 
Following a break for finals, the Bombers will return to action on Saturday, December 20, competing in the Chocolate Duals hosted by Messiah University.
