Women’s Basketball Falls on the Road to No. 23 Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team made the short trip to face nationally ranked No. 23 Cortland in a non-conference matchup Thursday evening. The Red Dragons built a double-digit lead in the second quarter and never looked back, handing the Bombers a 73-44 setback.

Madison Gill and Grace McNamara paced Ithaca with 11 points apiece, as Gill knocked down one of the team's two three-pointers. The Bombers struggled offensively, shooting just 30.6% from the floor and 2-for-13 from beyond the arc, while Cortland converted at an impressive 67.4% clip and hit 5-of-12 from deep. Brooke Tillotson scored a game-high 15 points for the Red Dragons going 6-for-8 from the field.

Tillotson scored the first basket of the game when she drove to the basket, but it was quickly matched by Aila Dervisevic assisting on a McNamara jumper that gave IC an 8-7 lead with 2:47 left in the quarter. Cortland responded with a decisive 10-1 run, capped by a pair of Tillotson free throws, to take control heading into the second.

The Red Dragons continued to click offensively in the second quarter, building a 29-13 lead when Jackie Funk scored on a second-chance effort midway through the period. Ithaca tried to chip away as Tori Drevna knocked down a three-pointer with 2:13 remaining to trim the deficit to 15 at 33-18, but Cortland maintained its momentum into halftime with a 37-20 advantage.

Coming out of the locker room, Cortland outscored Ithaca 24–11 in the third quarter to push its lead to 61–30. The Red Dragons capitalized on points off turnovers and added seven second-chance points during the frame. Ithaca showed fight in the fourth quarter, as McNamara scored six of her 12 points in the final stanza, but the Bombers were unable to overcome the deficit.

Next up, Ithaca (1-1) continues its early season road swing when they square off against New Paltz on the road at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 15.
