Bombers Start Fast but Fall Late; Women’s Basketball Drops 72–65 Road Battle to New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball had a quick turnaround and were once again on the road on Saturday afternoon at SUNY New Paltz. The Bombers opened up fast and had a 35-32 halftime lead but would fall 72-65 to the Hawks.

The Bombers opened the game with energy, racing out to a 24–17 lead after the first quarter thanks to sharp shooting and aggressive play on both ends of the floor. The Bombers moved the ball well and capitalized on early opportunities, but SUNY New Paltz responded in the second quarter. The Hawks consistently attacked the paint, tightening their defense and chipping away at the deficit. By halftime, Ithaca's lead had narrowed, and the game was set up for a tense second half.

The third quarter proved pivotal. New Paltz found its rhythm offensively, while Ithaca struggled to maintain the same scoring pace. The Hawks outscored the Bombers in the period, flipping the momentum and taking a slim lead into the final frame. In the fourth quarter, New Paltz closed the game with a few timely baskets and defensive stops, ultimately outscoring Ithaca down the stretch to secure the 72–65 victory on their home court.

Tori Drevna paced the Bombers scoring attack netting 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field, including a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Madalyn Barrows was a rebound short of a double-double with 11 points and nine boards, while Natalie Tucker chipped in 10 points.

With the loss, Ithaca drops to 1-2 on the season, while New Paltz improved to 3-0, earning its third-straight in front of its home crowd. The Bombers head to Brockport for a tournament next weekend, facing Fredonia and SUNY Brockport on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday against the host Golden Eagles at 3 p.m.
