NCAA Division III baseball teams are allowed one playing date, with a maximum of 18 innings, during the non-traditional fall season, and for the second straight year the SUNY Cortland and Ithaca College squads are using that date to maximum effect when the "Cortaca" rivals meet at Cortland's Robert H. Wallace '53 Field on Sunday, Oct. 12.
Â
The day will again be a fundraiser for Racker, which for more than 75 years has provided strength-based support for individuals with disabilities and their families in Cortland, Tompkins and Tioga counties. Racker offers programs and services to more than 3,500 people, supporting people and their families to lead fulfilling lives by providing opportunities to learn and be connected with others.
Â
The Red Dragons and the Bombers will play three 6-inning exhibition games. Admission is free of charge. The first game is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start, with pre-game activities occurring about 30 minutes prior. The entire three-game series will be available to watch on theÂ
Red Dragon Sports Network.
Â
Commemorative t-shirts will be sold for $15, and hooded sweatshirts for $25, both on siteÂ
and online, a 50/50 raffle will be held, and donation jars will be available. All proceeds will support Racker and its mission. Students from Racker will also be involved with activities on the field prior to the first game as well as with attractions and sensory experiences during the games.
Â
"This is an absolute no-brainer for our program to partner with the Racker Center and do our best to support their mission," said Cortland Head Coach Joe Brown. "We hope a lot of people come out to enjoy some good baseball and support the Racker Center as well!"
