SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's basketball team rebounded from a tough loss at RPI on Friday night and dominated Skidmore, 88-69, on Saturday at the Williamson Athletics and Recreation Center. Ithaca is now 10-6 on the season and 7-2 in the Liberty League.
It was a tight battle early on between the league foes as there were nine lead changes and two ties over the opening six minutes of action. After the Bombers regained the lead at 14-12, with 14:30 left in the half on a
Logan Wendell jumper, IC never trailed again.
That shot sparked a 14-2 run over the next five-plus minute to give Ithaca a 28-14 advantage. Skidmore managed to bring the difference back to 10 points multiple times over the final four minutes, but another Wendell bucket with one minute to go sent the Bombers into the locker room with a 44-32 lead.
Alex Penders led the way in the first half with 11 points on 3-of-7 from 3-point range. Wendell tallied 10 points in the half, to go along with six rebounds and three assists.
Evan Cabral and
Aidan Holmes chipped in with seven and six points.
Holmes hit a 3-pointer to get the second half underway and
Jaylon O'Neal followed with a three-point play to give IC its largest lead of the contest at the time, 50-32. With just over three minutes left in regulation, a bucket from Wendell gave the Bombers the first 20-point edge at 83-63, and a 3-pointer from
Michael Porter in the waning seconds of the matchup made it 88-66 for the largest disparity of the game.
Skidmore hit a three with 19 seconds left to account for the 88-69 final.
Wendell finished the contest with 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting and 10 rebounds for his career double-double. His first double-double occurred nearly one year ago to date at Skidmore on February 2, 2024, which was an 18-point, 10-rebound effort.
Penders hit another three in the second half to conclude the game with 14 points, while Cabral reached double figures with 10 points, to go along with five rebounds. Holmes and
Chris Leysath each scored nine points, while added eight points and five rebounds.
Jose Padilla chipped in six points, while Porter and
Yoav Regev both scored five points in the win.
Ithaca shot nearly 50-percent in the game, 32-for-67, and made 14 3-pointers in the win. IC also held a plus-11 edge in rebounds, 41-30, and assisted on 20 made baskets.
The Bombers will return to Ithaca next weekend to host Hobart on Friday and Union on Saturday.
