Women’s Basketball Improve to 7-7 in Their Fourth-Straight Win

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team won its fourth-straight game on Saturday afternoon as the Bombers ran away in a 79-59 Liberty League win over St. Lawrence University. With the win, the Bombers improve to .500 on the season at 7-7 overall and now sit at 6-1 within conference action.

The Bombers won the opening tip-off, and both teams scored on their initial possessions, with Elizabeth Majka driving to the hoop for a layup. Majka struck again when Emma Waite assisted on a floater, putting Ithaca up 6-4 just over a minute and a half into the contest. IC forced St. Lawrence into its first timeout when Waite drove to the cup, extending the lead to 11-4 with 5:15 left in the quarter. The lead grew to double digits (16-6) when Zoraida Icabalceta knocked down a 3-pointer. Elizabeth Flynn converted a driving layup, quickly matched by Waite's trey. IC held for the final possession, and June Dickson assisted on a Madison Gill layup, giving them a 25-10 lead heading into the second quarter.

Annabella Yorio knocked down a jumper in the paint, extending the IC lead to 29-14 with her 10th point of the contest. Madison Gill added a pair of free throws midway through the quarter, putting Ithaca up 33-18. The Bombers then went cold, not scoring again until Zoraida Icabalceta drove to the basket. Elizabeth Majka energized the crowd with a big-time block of Margaret Dougher with 1:14 remaining until halftime. The Bombers went into the break leading 38-24, shooting an impressive 51.6% from the field and 3-of-6 from downtown.

Emma Waite scored the opening basket of the third quarter for the Bombers with an uncontested layup. The Saints responded with a 6-0 run, but Ithaca halted their momentum with a Madison Gill trey and back-to-back layups from Elizabeth Majka, putting Ithaca up 47-30. Shortly after, the Saints called a timeout, but the Bombers' defense continued to lock down the visitors. Aila Dervisevic knocked down a 3-pointer, assisted by Gill, extending the IC lead to 54-37.

Ithaca led 56-40 entering the fourth quarter and Elizabeth Majka got into double figures with a driving layup that was assisted by Anya Watkins. Ithaca outscored the Saints 10-7 across the opening five minutes of the quarter. They would hold on down the stretch with their bench earning minutes to close the game out. Ithaca held the visitors to 33.9% as the Saints made just one three-pointer. Leading the scoring charge for Ithaca was Annabella Yorio (14), Zoraida Icabalceta (13), Elizabeth Majka (12) and Madison Gill (11) who each finished in double figures.

Next up, the Bombers will hit the road next weekend for a pair of away games. Ithaca will take on RPI on Friday, January 24 with tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m. IC will then square off against Skidmore on Saturday at 2 p.m.
