Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Drills 19 Threes in 99-73 Rout of RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's basketball team led wire-to-wire in what was their best shooting performance of the season thus far as the Bombers rolled past RIT, 99-73, in Clark Gymnasium on January 13. Ithaca is now 7-5 on the season and 4-1 in Liberty League play.

Ithaca went 33-for-77 from the field (42.9%) in the matchup, but 19 of those makes on 45 attempts were from 3-point range (42.2%), as IC dished out 20 assists in the victory. The Bombers also went 14-for-18 at the free throw line and held a plus-nine advantage in rebounds against the Tigers.

The Bombers shot 50-percent (10-for-20) from distance in the first half to build a 15-point lead, 50-35, at intermission. IC did lead by as many as 20 points in the first half.

They then came out red hot in the second half and drilled eight 3-pointers over the opening seven minutes of the second half to establish a 34-point edge at 76-42 with just over 13 minutes remaining.

During that early onslaught, every basket that the Bombers made came from beyond the arc. IC quickly went up by 21 points at 62-41 less than five minutes in, and after the Tigers made a layup on the ensuing possession, the Bombers went on a 14-1 run to put the game out of reach.

IC would go cold, however, and scored just two points over the next seven minutes, but regrouped and tallied 21 points down the final five minutes of play to account for the 99-73 final.

Evan Cabral led the Bombers in scoring with 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting, including 6-for-12 from distance. Cabral also recorded three rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Logan Wendell narrowly missed out on a triple-double with 20 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Wendell went 7-for-19 overall with four of his makes from 3-point range.

Jaylon O'Neal also reached double figures with 17 points, and he pulled down nine rebounds. Aidan Holmes and Chris Leysath both finished the contest with nine points and six boards.

Alex Penders added eight points and six rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench, while Cole Wissink added five points and four rebounds. Thomas McKiernan scored six points in six minutes of action and Laurence Brady accounted for the other two points for the Bombers.

IC will return home this weekend for Liberty League games against Clarkson on Friday and St. Lawrence on Saturday.
