ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY – After two-straight defeats and starting 0-1 in conference play, the Ithaca College men's soccer team found themselves back in the win column with a 2-1 victory over Bard College on Saturday afternoon. The Bombers improved to 1-1 in conference play and secured their fifth win of the season including their fourth on the road, while Bard fell to 0-2 in conference play and 5-4 overall.
The Bombers came out strong after their loss to Hobart, showing extra energy from the opening kickoff. Within the first 10 minutes, they accumulated three shots and a couple of corners, putting Bard on their heels. This consistent pressure paid off when Jack Carney found the bottom right corner, giving the Bombers a 1-0 lead. The rest of the first half was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams having chances to score. The half ended with the Bombers leading 1-0.
The second half was action-packed, with both teams pushing in transition. Bard found the equalizer when Kevin McDonough scored in the top right corner, assisted by Zac Sparacio. However, Ithaca quickly responded as Jared Krasnove scored the go-ahead and what turned out to be the game-winning goal, also finding the top right corner, putting Ithaca up 2-1. Despite Bard's strong pushes for a tying goal, Ithaca held on to secure their first Liberty League win of the season.
Jared Krasnove and Jack Carney were the goal scorers for the Bombers, while goalkeeper Bryson Shaull made four saves to secure the victory.
The Bombers will return to Carp Wood Field to take on Hamilton College on Tuesday, October 1st at 4 p.m., hoping to gain momentum heading into the thick of their Liberty League schedule.
