ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team battled Hamilton College in a midweek non-conference matchup at Carp Wood Field on October 1 and the Bombers came up on the short end of a 2-0 decision as the Continentals scored two goals in the final five minutes of action. With the loss, Ithaca is now 5-4 on the season, while Hamilton improves to 3-4-2.
It was an evenly matched contest throughout all 90 minutes of action with shot finishing at 15-13 in favor of Hamilton, but the Bombers held a 9-3 advantage in corners.
IC put the first shot on target in the 12th minute by
Drew Warren, which was saved, and the Continentals countered with an offensive attack but
Bryson Shaull turned away both shots in the 16th and 18th minutes.
In the 32nd minute, the Bombers put together their best chance to take the lead as Jake Krasnove snuck a shot through a crowded box but a Hamilton defender was positioned on the goal line to turn the attempt away for a team save. Less than a minute later,
Landon Hellwig ripped a shot on frame for another Hamilton save by goalie Finn Wheeler, who finished the day with eight stops.
Early in the second half, Ithaca set up off a corner with
Andrew Kusek sending a header to the right side of the net, but Wheeler was there to make a one-handed save to keep things knotted at 0-0.
It wasn't until the 85:23 mark of the game when either team could capitalize as Hamilton slipped a pass by the IC defense to beat Shaull for a 1-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, the Continentals struck again for the final tally.
Ithaca heads to St. Lawrence University on October 5 for a Liberty League showdown at 3 p.m. The Bombers will then host Misericordia on October 9 at 4 p.m. to kickoff a string of six straight home games.
