ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College softball team dropped a pair of Liberty League road games to the University of Rochester on Friday falling 3-0 in the first matchup before the Yellow Jackets made a comeback in the second to complete the sweep 4-3 over the Bombers. The pair of conference losses drop IC to 21-12 overall and 5-5 within the Liberty League.
Rochester 3, Ithaca 0 (F)
Riley Laygo got the 'Jackets on the board in the bottom of the first with a solo homer that sailed over the left field fence. Both other runs were scored in the third and fourth frames and were unearned with Savannah Nowak scoring on a wild pitch and Molly Mason driving in a run after an earlier Bombers error within the inning.
Anna Cornell took the loss in the pitching circle tossing all six innings where she gave up one earned run on four hits, while striking out four. Molly Broccolo was able to pitch her way out of a few jams giving up six hits in the shutout.
The Bombers had runners on first and second in the top of the second but Broccolo forced
Ava Rao into a ground out. IC would load the bases up in the top of the fifth, but Rochester would get out of the inning unscathed when
Jessie Lopez grounded into a double play.
Ava Rao finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of singles.
Rochester 4, Ithaca 3 (F)
Ithaca College got the scoring started early with
Haley Petrucci doubling home
Jessie Lopez in the top of the first inning. The 'Jackets would have response in the bottom half of the frame plating two runs on a Molly Mason line single off of
Ainsley Rogers.
Rogers would get tagged for another run with Rochester going up 3-1 in the third on a fielder's choice.
Mady Rowell would give up her lone run an inning later when Loren Castilloux doubled home Katelyn Wade.
The Bombers would begin mounting their comeback with
Hudson Hassler driving in
Haley Petrucci on a sacrifice fly.
Sela Scheinman would then blast her second homer of the year, a solo shot in the top of the seventh making it 4-3. Maddie White was able to get the save recording the final out.

Sydney Miranda each finished with two hits apiece as the Bombers outhit the 'Jackets 9-4 overall.
Ithaca College will return to action on Sunday, April 28 hosting Skidmore College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. This Liberty League doubleheader was rescheduled from earlier in the month (April 13).
