No. 12 Women’s Lacrosse Moves Win Streak to 11 at Hamilton, 17-8

CLINTON, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 12 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team used a dominant second half at Hamilton on Wednesday evening to come away with a 17-8 victory and extend its winning streak to 11 straight games. The Bombers are now 14-1 on the season with one game remaining on its regular season schedule.

Ithaca jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter behind goals from Chloe Nordyke, Lily Cody, Sydney Phillips, and Maizy Veitch. IC's first three goals were all scored within the opening two minutes of the game and were 31 seconds apart.

After Hamilton got on the board at the 11-minute mark of the second quarter, Phillips scored on an advantage goal to go back ahead by four goals as Cody assisted on the tally with 10:52 remaining. Hamilton would then go on a four-goal run to tie things up at 5-5 with just under three minutes to go in the half, but Cody and Lexi Kellish found the back to the next to send IC into intermission with a two-goal lead at 7-5.

Veitch extended the difference to 8-5 with 11:18 left in the third quarter and the Continentals answered less than two minutes later. The Bombers would then rattle off three straight goals from Veitch, Elizabeth Green and Phillips to make it 11-8 with under two minutes on the clock in the period. Hamilton closed out the third with another goal for the 11-9 score heading to the final quarter.

It was all Bombers over the final 15 minutes as IC scored five straight goals in seven minutes to put the game away. Phillips put home her fourth of six goals on the night in the opening 30 seconds and the Cody found the back of the net again with 12:45 on the clock. Just over 20 seconds later, Phillips scored again to make it 14-7 and Nordyke extended the lead to 15-7 at the 9:05 mark.

Phillips capped off her evening with her final goal at the 7:28 point of the fourth for a nine-goal edge at 16-7 before Hamilton ended the run just over a minute later. Caroline Wise concluded the scoring with 19 seconds to go to account for the 17-8 final.

Wise won eight draws in the game, while Veitch had six points on three goals and three assists. Cody also had a hat trick with six draws and three ground balls, while Kaitly Russell scooped up four ground balls in the win.

Lexi Held stopped 13 shots for her 14th win of the season and sixth double-digit save effort of the year.

Ithaca will head to Skidmore on Saturday and then host the a Liberty League Semifinal game on May 3.
