SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 12 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team capped off its regular season with a 20-7 win at Skidmore College on Saturday to finish 10-0 in the Liberty League. The Bombers have now won 12 straight games and are 15-1 heading into the Liberty League Tournament, which they will host at Higgins Stadium next Friday.
It was a back-and-forth battle early on as the two teams played to a 2-2 over the opening four minutes.
Maizy Veitch scored the Bombers' first goal with 13:35 on the clock and then
Sydney Phillips took a pass from
Caroline Wise with 12:06 to go.
After Skidmore tied things up at 2-2, IC earned goals from
Leigh Naturale and
Lily Cody to go ahead, 4-2, midway through the quarter. Skidmore would answer with the next two goals to knot the game again at 4-4 in the opening moments of the second quarter, but it was all Bombers from there.
Ithaca would go on to score eight of the next nine goals in the quarter to take a 12-5 advantage into halftime.
Lexi Kellish and Wise scored on back-to-back advantage goals to start the run, while
Elizabeth Green and Cody tallied two goals. Veitch and
Chloe Nordyke notched the other two goals to close out the half.
Wise continued IC's run to begin the third quarter to make it 13-5 off a feed from Cody. Just over six minutes later, Phillips found the back of the net again as Veitch assisted on the shot and then Skidmore made it 14-7 with 5:30 to go in the quarter, but that would be the Thoroughbreds final goal of the game.
The Bombers put home three more goals in the third to build a 10-goal lead at 17-7, as Cody (up), Veitch and Wise all registered goals. Veitch, Cody and Phillips accounted for the Bombers' goals in the fourth quarter for the 20-7 final.
Cody and Veitch each finished the game with six points, while Cody also won three draws. Wise had four points, 12 draws, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Phillips had a hat trick and Green contributed three points.
Naturale caused two turnovers and
Kaitlyn Russell picked up three ground balls.
Lexi Held finished the day with seven saves, two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
IC will host the winner of Skidmore and RPI on May 3, and if victorious, will play in the title game at home at 1 p.m. on May 5.
