POTSDAM, N.Y.- The Ithaca College men's lacrosse team dropped an absolute nailbiter to Liberty League foe, the Clarkson Golden Knights with a final score of 13-12. The Bombers fell to 7-8 on the season while Clarkson improved to 7-8. The Bombers now have one remaining game in their season.
Â
This was a high-scoring, back-and-forth affair but the visiting Bombers sparked the scoring with
Peter Nowlan and
John Sramac scoring the first three goals of the contest putting IC up 3-0. The ball movement was immaculate and Ithaca was able to find twine with their shots. Sebastian Seiger scored the next goal to bring Clarkson within two but after a few more exchanging goals, Ithaca went into the second quarter leading 5-3.
Â
The story of the second quarter was defense as both teams put out the offensive fireworks and settled into solid defense. Matt Reilly scored for Clarkson to bring them within one, but on the ensuing faceoff,
Chris Sohl found
Hunter Wallace who took it to the rack giving Ithaca the two-goal cushion once more. After several minutes of back-and-forth action, Clarkson was able to score two quick goals to knot this game up at six goals apiece going into halftime.Â
Â
The trend of solid defense continued in the third quarter as only three total goals were scored. Out of a chaotic net-mouth scramble,
Michael Gillam cashed in on the loose change to put the Bombers up 7-6. Clarkson continued their resilient play and scored two of their own goals giving them the lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Â
The final 15 minute quarter started with a bang as the Bombers scored four goals in less than five minutes giving them a three goal advantage.
Brendan Occhino scored a backhand shot as he came around from X to catapult the scoring.
Peter Nowlan,
Jack Giannuzzi, and
John Sramac all followed suit. Out of a timeout, Clarkson scored three-straight to tie the game right back up at 11. Ithaca answered but Clarkson tallied the last two goals to win the game 13-12.
Â
Peter Nolan led the way for the Bombers with four goals, and Matt Reilly led the way for the Golden Knights with 3 goals and 3 assists.
Â
The Bombers final game of the season will be next Saturday, April 27 at home when they take the Skidmore Thoroughbreds as they will celebrate Senior Day as well with a12 p.m. start.
