ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College Women's Lacrosse Team secured a resounding victory today against RPI with a final score of 20-5. The win further solidifies Ithaca's exceptional season record, which now stands at an impressive 11-1 and 7-0 in the Liberty League.
The game saw Ithaca's offense firing on all cylinders, with an onslaught of goals that kept the RPI defense under pressure throughout the match. After RPI scored the game's opening goal, the Bombers answered with seven straight to build a six-goal lead early in the second quarter.
RPI pulled to within 8-4 after a free-position goal at the 3:54 mark, but
Maizy Veitch sent the Bombers into half with a five-goal advantage after scooping up a loose ball and scoring with 9.5 seconds left.
It was all Bombers in the second half with 10 straight goals over 20-plus minutes to make it a 19-4 game with 11:26 remaining. RPI got back on the board with 7:30 on the clock, but IC had the final say with a
Juliana Esposito goal off a pass from Veitch two minutes later to account for the 20-5 final.
Standout performances came from Veitch, who finished with five goals and three assists, while
Leigh Naturale and
Lexi Kellish each scored three goals. Veitch was also the top facilitator with three assists, while Kellish,
Lily Cody and
Sydney Phillips each posted two assists. Esposito notched two goals in the win, while
Elizabeth Green,
Kelly Augeri,
Chloe Nordyke and
Caroline Wise also got in on the action with a goal each.
Wise also finished the game with 11 draw wins to push over 500 for her career, which puts her top 10 all-time in Division III.
Kellish also caused three turnovers in the win, while Cody,
Kaitlyn Russell and
Maggie Mandel each had two.
Lexi Held made five saves in 60 minutes of action to improve to 11-1 on the season.
IC held RPI to just 13 shots on the day.
Ithaca looks towards 12-1 next Friday at home where the Bombers will face Vassar.
