ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team continued its unbeaten streak since returning from South Carolina as the Bombers took down St. John Fisher, 4-3, on a walk-off single by
Ethan Rothstein in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Bombers are now 14-4 on the season.
Danny Drotos earned his first collegiate start and had a stellar first inning as he retired the side in just eight pitches. Drotos would go 6.0 innings in a no decision and struck out seven batters to just one walk. He allowed five hits and two runs.
The Bombers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as
Collin Feeney led off with a double to right-center and scored from second on a wild pitch.
Fisher took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third by stringing four straight base hits together, but the Bombers escaped further damage with an inning-ending double play.
IC looked to tie the game up in the bottom of the third as
Louis Fabbo ripped to a double to left-center and Feeney slipped coming around the third base bag, which allowed Fisher to throw behind Fabbo and record an out at second. The Bombers were unable to score in the inning.
The Bombers finally got back on the board in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 2-2. With two outs,
Colin Shashaty and Rothstein both drew walks and then
Riley Brawdy sent a single through the right side of the infield to plate Shashaty for the game-tying run.
Fisher regained the lead in the top of the 10th inning, 3-2, on a botched baserunning play by the Cardinals. With two runners on, a base hit went to the right field wall, but the lead runner got hung up between home and third. The Bombers then threw behind the trail runner to record an out but the runner on third dashed home to score.
In the bottom of the 10th, IC loaded the bases on a walk, double and intentional walk. IC tied the game on a bases loaded walk to Shashaty that pushed home
Colin Dunn. The Bombers then walked off with the 4-3 win as Rothstein sent a line drive to center and
Luca Pipia scored.
Conor Burns picked up the win in 4.0 inning of relief as he struck out two batters and allowed one run on four hits.
Feeney finished the game going 3-for-5 at the plate, while Rothstein was 2-for-4 to pace the offense.
Ithaca will return to Liberty League play this weekend with a three-game series against RIT. IC travels to RIT on Friday and will host the Tigers for a doubleheader on Saturday.
