No. 20 Women's Lacrosse Remains Perfect in Liberty League with 11-9 Win over Union

ITHACA, N.Y. - The No. 20 nationally ranked Ithaca College women's lacrosse team took on Union at Higgins Stadium to continue in Liberty League play on March 30 and the Bombers came away with an 11-9 win over the Garnet Chargers, advancing their season record to 7-1 [3-0].

The game began with intense energy from both teams. Union came out strong scoring the game's opening goal within the first two minutes, and traded goals with the Bombers. Ithaca was able to thrive offensively with a goal by Chloe Nordyke in the last three minutes and led 3-2 at the end of the first quarter.

Within the first five minutes of the second quarter, Union received multiple penalties, but the teams continued to trade possession of the ball. Union was able to rally being short-handed and Katie Julien scored halfway through the quarter to bring the score to 3-3. Ithaca was able to hold out for the end of the Charger penalty, and Elizabeth Green was able to take advantage, scoring only a minute after. Caroline Wise scored the final goal of the quarter, bringing the Bombers lead to 5-3 at the end of the half.

The third quarter started off with an early goal from Maizy Veitch, earning the Bombers a three-goal lead. The Garnet Chargers quickly responded with a bounce shot from Dana Nelson, making the score 6-4. The Bombers and Garnet Chargers continued to trade possessions until Sydney Philips responded with two goals, both assisted by Veitch.

The Bombers continued to take the momentum and run with it as Chloe Nordyke followed with a goal soon after the beginning of the fourth. It continued to be a back-and-forth game, as Philips of Ithaca and Joseph of Union traded two goals each, within minutes of one another. With five minutes left in the game, the Garnet Chargers attempted to close the four-goal gap with a Julien goal, posting the score at 11-8. The Bombers were able to close out the Saturday with a win over the Garnet Chargers 11-9.

Philips led Ithaca in scoring with four goals. Lily Cody and Chloe Nordyke also scored two goals, and Wise won 13 draws. Lexi Held made seven saves in the win.

The Bombers will continue Liberty League play Friday, April 5th travelling to Potsdam to take on Clarkson.
