CANTON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team elevated its overall record to 13-4 on the season and stayed perfect in the Liberty League at 5-0 with a doubleheader sweep at St. Lawrence on Saturday by scores of 7-3 and 22-8.
GAME ONE: Ithaca 7, St. Lawrence 3
IC fell behind, 2-0, after the bottom of the first in the opener, but a four-run second vaulted the Bombers ahead for the remainder of the game. In the second,
Colin Shashaty drove home two runs on a single that brought in
Ethan Rothstein and
Ryan Laubscher. A few batters later,
Riley Brawdy earned an RBI groundout that scored
Collin Feeney and then
Ethan McDonough singled in Shashaty to cap off the frame.
After St. Lawrence pulled to within 4-3 in the bottom of the third, the Bombers scored once in the fourth on an RBI double from
Tyler Pugliese and then pushed across two more in the ninth on RBI singles from
Matt Curtis and Laubscher.
Colin Leyner put together his second consecutive dominant outing with 12 strikeouts over 7.0 innings of work. Leyner allowed just three hits and one earned run with two walks.
Conor Burns picked up his third save of the season in two perfect innings of relief with two strikeouts.
GAME TWO: Ithaca 22, St. Lawrence 8 (7 innings)
The Bombers wasted no time putting the nightcap out of reach as they plated five runs in the top of the first and five more in the top of the second to build a 10-2 lead.
Laubscher drove in the first runs of the game with a two-run single that brough home
Ethan Daddabbo and Curtis, and then Feeney sent a three-run home run to right with Laubscher and Shashaty on base.
In the second, McDonough drove in a run on a base hit and Curtis followed with an RBI single to left.
Louis Fabbo would score later in the inning on a groundout by Shashaty, who later scored on an error. Another error by the Saints allowed the Bombers to reach 10 runs as Laubscher scored.
The Saints got to within 11-7 by the bottom of the fourth, but Ithaca would go back ahead by eight runs with four more in the top of the fifth to make it 15-7. All four of IC's runs were unearned as two score on an error and then two crossed the plate on a base hit by
Ethan Rothstein.
IC put the 10-run rule into effect after three runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh inning to account for the 22-8 final score. Three runs scored on an error in the sixth and then
Nicholas Cutaia and
Luca Pipia drove in runs in the seventh. Feeney capped off the onslaught with a two-run double later in the inning.
The Bombers will play St. John Fisher in a non-conference game on Tuesday, April 2 for IC's home opener at 3:30 p.m.
