Baseball Hangs 14 on St. Lawrence to Open Series with a Win

CANTON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team improved its season record to 11-4 and remained perfect in the Liberty League in a 14-8 victory against St. Lawrence University on Friday to open a three-game series with the Saints.

IC started off the game with a perfectly executed double steal by Colin Shashaty and Ryan Laubscher, resulting in Laubscher scoring. In the bottom half of the first inning, Jack Picozzi escaped a bases loaded jam unscathed to keep the Bombers up 1-0.

The Bombers offense started rolling in the third inning, beginning with a sacrifice fly from Ethan Daddabbo, followed by some heads up baserunning on an Ethan Rothstein three-run single, which was aided by an error. Laubscher continued the rally with a mammoth two-run blast, giving IC an early 6-0 lead.

The Saints answered with a three-run home run of their own to cut the lead in half. A nice play at the plate with a perfect flip from Picozzi helped save a run to end the inning.

IC picked up the offense in the fourth inning with a bullet off the bat of Louis Fabbo, resulting in a two-run home run.

The Saints put together a rally in the fifth inning with two RBI singles, resulting in three runs to cut IC's lead to 8-6.

IC put pressure on the bases in the sixth inning as Matt Curtis stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and delivered a double to drive in two runs.

The Bombers bats stayed hot in the seventh with Ethan McDonough ripped an RBI double, scoring Shashaty. Collin Feeney smacked an RBI single of his own to add to the Ithaca lead.

Laubscher's hitting display continued as he popped his second two-run home run on the day to push Ithaca's lead to a commanding 14-6. The Saints punched back, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit, however, it would not be enough as the Bombers secured the 14-8 win.

Following Picozzi's outing with six strikeouts in four and a third innings pitched on the mound, Sean Kelly, Dan Kellachan, Bo Nicholson and Keaton Blackwood were able to keep the Saints hitters in check for IC to come away with the victory.

IC will face off in a doubleheader against the St. Lawrence Saints tomorrow with first pitch for game one at 12pm.
