Baseball Sweeps Clarkson, 3-1 and 12-5, to Open Liberty League Action

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team began its Liberty League schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Clarkson University, 3-1 and 12-5, at Cornell's Booth Field on March 26. Ithaca is now 10-4 overall this season and 2-0 in the Liberty League.

GAME ONE: Ithaca 3, Clarkson 1

The Bombers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Collin Feeney led off with an infield single and moved into scoring position on a stolen base and error. Feeney scored the first run on a single by Matt Curtis. After walks to Ryan Laubscher and Ethan Daddabbo loaded the bases, Colin Shashaty doubled down the right field line to bring home two more runs.

Clarkson got on the board in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly to left centerfield to make it 3-1. The run was setup by a bloop single to right center and a double to left.

The Golden Knights threatened in the top of the sixth by loading the bases with two outs, but Colin Leyner got out of the jam by inducing a fly ball to right and preserving IC's 3-1 lead.

Leyner concluded his outing after the seventh and finished his day with seven strikeouts to two walks and five hits allowed.

Conor Burns tossed the final two innings of relief to earn his second save of the season as he struck out two and gave up just one hit.

Feeney and Curtis each had two hits in the win for the Bombers.

GAME TWO: Ithaca 12, Clarkson 5

Clarkson got on the board first in the night cap with a two-run third inning on a base hit and fielder's choice to build a 2-0 lead. The Golden Knights tacked on another run in the fourth inning, 3-0, as a double moved up to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a base hit through the right side of the infield.

Ithaca broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning with four runs on three hits to take a 4-3 lead. Riley Brawdy drove in the first run on a bases loaded single to center and then an error off the bat of Connor Pedersen to the contest. A wild pitch brought in the fourth run as Brawdy scored all the way from second base.

The Bombers plated three more runs in the sixth inning to build a 7-3 lead on a two-run single to the alley by Louis Fabbo to bring home Colin Dunn and Feeney. After a pitching change, Curtis lined a single to center and Fabbo scored after he moved up on a stolen base.

IC blew the game open in the seventh with four more runs to extend its lead to 11-3. Lucas Orlovitz delivered the first RBI of the frame with a single to left center that brought in Daddabbo. An error led to two more runs scoring as Feeney picked up on RBI on the play and then Curtis and Camden Laney followed with back-to-back RBI singles.

The final run of the game for IC crossed the plate on a sac fly by Orlovitz to bring in Logan Scully.

Clarkson plated two runs in the top of the ninth inning to account for the 12-5 final score.

Ithaca produced 12 hits in the win and drew 10 walks. Curtis, Brawdy and Pedersen each notched two hits in the contest.

Jack Colyer picked up the win in 6.0 innings of work with two strikeouts. Jack Picozzi and Sean Kelly each tossed a scoreless inning of relief and John Griffin finished up the game in the ninth.

The Bombers hit the road this weekend for three games at St. Lawrence on Friday and Saturday.
