Men’s Lacrosse Drop a Liberty League Contest to Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's lacrosse team came out on the short end of an 11-7 result on Saturday afternoon as they fell to Vassar College on the road. The 11-7 loss drops IC to 5-3 overall and 0-1 within the Liberty League.

The two teams traded goals over the course of the first opening minute and a half or so, but Vassar found the back of the net twice in the closing minutes of the frame to go up 3-1. The Bombers got into the nice rhythm during the middle portion of the second quarter as after going down 6-2, Liam Lennon netted his first of the season and Cullen Adams scored an unassisted effort to cut the deficit to 6-4 with 4:06 left in the quarter.

The Brewers closed the second quarter adding one more, but it was answered by John Sramac who finished off a nice play and feed from Cullen Adams as the score was 7-5 in favor of the home team going into halftime. The third quarter began with Vassar scoring three-straight before IC was able to get one back when Kyle Proctor scored a man-up goal, his eight of the season with 7:28 left in the third, which proved to be the final of the period.

Both teams scored a goal apiece during the final 15 minutes of play with Charlie Niebuhr scoring his 19th goal of the season, once again on the man-up as this time Derek Stout assisted on a nice cut from Niebuhr. John Sramac led the way for Ithaca scoring two goals and had three points to go along with three ground balls.

Brendan Occhino caused two turnovers and collected a pair of ground balls as Chris Sohl led the team with seven faceoff wins.

Next up, the Bombers will return to non-conference action when they travel to Dallas, Pa. for a matchup against Misericordia University for a 7 p.m. start on Wednesday, March 27.
