DALLAS, Pa. — The Ithaca College men's lacrosse team defeated the Misericordia University Cougars Wednesday afternoon by the final score of 13-6. The Bombers improved to 6-3 on the season in the second ever matchup between the two programs as IC have picked up victories in both games.
Charlie Niebuhr led the way with a hat trick on the night, with
John Sramac following with two goals.
Hunter Wallace and
Ethan Flanagan both chipped in a goal apiece.
Jared Sedlock and
John Sramac tallied in a pair of assists each.
The Bombers jumped out to a blistering start, with four goals in a row from
Jack Pastore,
John Sramac,
Chris Sohl, and
Hunter Wallace. With the hopes of making any sort of run, Michael Kilgallon was able to get a goal passed
Cole Corrigan in net. Ending the first period,
Michael Gillam was able to another one back. With four minutes left in the period Jared Pelliccione put another one back to improve to 5-2 ending the period.
Opening up the second quarter, the Bombers offense was booming, with a connection between
Kyle Proctor and
Charlie Niebuhr. The assist was given from behind the net, where Niebuhr was able to receive and put one back. After a steal from
Jack Pastore at the midfield, there was an offensive surge that led to an
Ethan Flanagan in transition. This forced a Cougars timeout. Right out of the timeout the Cougars had a surge of offensive energy. Connor Gundersen came out with a goal assisted by Michael Kilgallon, followed by a Connor Bevan goal from Connor Gundersen to send the game into halftime with a score of 7-4.
As the third quarter opened up with a bit of back-and-forth that ended in a
Sam Baker goal that was assisted by
John Sramac. The Bombers looked to extend their lead, but the Cougars came back and had a Brendan Stanley goal to cut the lead back to three. Niebuhr was able to respond with a goal. After a complete Bombers takeover, the third quarter was filled with four more goals all from the Ithaca side. The quarter ended with a score of 12-5 to head into the final quarter of play.
Ithaca was able to coast along the rest of the way finishing out the fourth quarter with a sole goal from
Cullen Adams. This makes the final when the horn blew as 13-6.
The Bombers dominated this game on the field and in the box score, leading in shots on goal 33–17 as well ground balls 36–19.
Ithaca plays Liberty League rival No.5/4 RPI at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 30 at Higgins Stadium.
