Swarthmore Snaps Baseball’s Winning Streak

LEXINGTON, S.C. – The Ithaca College baseball team saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday as Swarthmore blew out the Bombers, 24-9, at Lexington County Stadium. Ithaca is now 7-3 on the year.

The Garnet scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning to immediately but IC in a hole. The Bombers answered with a three-run second inning as Connor Pedersen drove in two runs with a double and then Colin Dunn brought in Ethan Rothstein with a sacrifice fly.

Swarthmore answered with two runs in the bottom of the second, but the Bombers would plate six runs in the fourth to take a 9-8 lead. Dunn started things off with an RBI single to plate Lucas Orlovitz and Rothstein scored on an error during the play. Another error led to Pedersen crossing the plate and then Louis Fabbo drove in a pair on a double to tie the game at 8-8. A groundout by Ryan Laubscher allowed Fabbo to score the go-ahead run.

It was all Swarthmore from there as the Garnet scored five runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and nine in the seventh.

Ithaca will play Case Western on Friday and Oswego on Saturday to wrap up the spring trip.
