CHESTERTOWN, Md. — The Ithaca College men's lacrosse team came out victorious, winning its game on Friday night against Washington College, in a 14-10 game in Maryland.
Washington College broke open the scoring at 10:26 on the clock in the first quarter in, as Cam Carrigan put it in the back of the net. After another Shoreman goal,
John Sramac got the Bombers on the board with 4:24 left in the first. After a short minute with the ball in the Bombers hands,
Jack Pastore tied the game with an assist from
Kyle Proctor with just over three minutes left in the first frame. Both teams had plenty of chances, but the score was just 2–2 after the first quarter.
The Bombers offense was booming in the second quarter, as
Sekou Ibrahima broke the tie with 14:07 in the second quarter, putting the Bombers up 3-2. Ithaca was able to tally in two goals from
Charlie Niebuhr having back-to-back points with assists from
Derek Stout and
Kyle Proctor, followed by a
Derek Stout goal with 10:22 on the clock, making it a 6-2 game in favor of the Bombers.
After a short three-minute scoring drought,
Cullen Adams added in another Bombers goal that was assisted by
Sam Baker (7-2) with 7:10 on the clock in the first half. After another goal with 2:22 on the clock from the Bombers by
Kyle Proctor and assisted by
Sam Baker, Washington College was forced to call a timeout with the Bombers going on a 6-0 run. The Shoremen were unable to respond, sending the game into halftime with the score as 8-2 in favor of Ithaca.
Nothing changed for the Bombers as they opened up the second half with a
Kyle Proctor goal assisted by
Jared Sedlock within the first minute of the third. Soon following,
Michael Gillam was able to tally a goal in at 13:38, making it 10-2. After a penalty call on Ithaca for slashing, Washington College found themselves in an extra-man opportunity. Grant Matthews was able to convert a goal that was assisted by Ben Dickson with 12 minutes on the clock. After less than a minute from the last, Cory Morgan was able to score again for Washington College making it a 10-4 game with 11:20 on the clock.
After six more shot attempts from Washington College, they were able to put two more goals in the back of the net. Luke Brennan goal cut the deficit to five, and Cory Morgan put his second goal away on the night making it 10-6 with 8:57 on the clock in the third quarter. Ithaca College's very own
Graham Brady was able to respond, thanks to a
Jack Pastore assist making it 11-6 with 6:44 on the clock. The third quarter came to a close with a man-up goal by Parker Barta on Washington College. The score was 11-7 as the game moves to the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter was opened by Washington College on a surge to cut the deficit, with back-to-back goals making it 11-9 with 11:49 on the clock.
Charlie Niebuhr was able to respond with a goal assisted by
Michael Gillam, making it 12-9 with 10 minutes left to play.
Derek Stout was able to convert on back-to-back goals, the first one being after a man-up opportunity that was assisted by
Brendan Occhino (13-9), and the second was assisted by
John Sramac, at 3:21 left in the game. WC was able to put one more back with two minutes left in the game making it 14-10 to finish the game.
Unable to trim their deficit, the Bombers were able to come out on top against Washington College in the 14-10 game.
Charlie Niebuhr and
Derek Stout both came out on the night with hat tricks, and
Kyle Proctor added in two goals.
Kyle Proctor and
Sam Baker both added in two assists on the night.
Cole Corrigan was in net, racking in 19 saves on the night.
The Bombers will look to continue their win streak in their Liberty League opener against Vassar College at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
