CLERMONT, Fla. – The Ithaca College softball team saw several homers on Thursday as they were able to shutout both of their opponents, first besting Occidental College by a 2-0 score and then followed it up beating Juniata 8-0. The Bombers have now won four in a row and improved to 7-3 overall as they look to close out their Spring Break trip on a high note with a pair of games against Suffolk University and Simpson College on Friday.
Ithaca 2, Occidental College 0 (F)
The Bombers used a huge home run off the bat of
Haley Petrucci to break the scoreless tie as her solo shot put Ithaca up 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Ithaca added an insurance run an inning later when
Jessie Lopez led things off with a single, stole second and would score when
Elise Waddington drove her in on an RBI single.
Lopez finished with two hits going 2-for-3 as
Taylor Brunn was exceptional in the pitching circle improving to 2-0 on the season. The first year hurler held Occidental hitless while also collecting three strike outs.
Ithaca 6, Juniata College 0 (F)
Petrucci smashed her second home run of the day and third of the season to once again break a scoreless tie, this time it was a three-run homer that sailed over the outfield fence that drove in both
Elise Waddington and
Jessie Lopez.
Hudson Hassler made it 4-0 in favor of the Bombers with her RBI single that plated
Kailen Winkelblech.
The home run surge continued with both
Elise Waddington and Petrucci each connecting on solo homers in the bottom of the fifth inning as they went back-to-back in the IC lineup and competed the scoring.
Anna Cornell was stellar as she improved to 4-1 overall and tossed a one-hitter where she also struck out 10 Juniata opponents.
Next up, Ithaca College will complete its trip down in Florida on Friday taking on Suffolk University at 4 p.m. and Simpson College at 6:15 p.m.
