ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision against conference foe the University of Rochester on Saturday as the double pair of
Eric Dubilirer and
Siddharth Vaada provided the lone point for Ithaca in a match that took place in the Goergen Athletic Center.
Ithaca's loss is the first of the young season as they fall to 1-1 overall and 0-1 within the Liberty League.
In doubles action both the No. 1 pair of
Gijs Fidler and
Emiliano Pedrero and No. 3 pair of
Jacob Wachs and
Nicolas Luis each managed to win three games apiece. It proved to be an ultra-competitive contest at No. 2 doubles with Vaada and Dubilirer getting pushed to extras where they were victorious 8-7 (7-5).
Nicolas Luis had himself a back-and-forth match at No. 1 singles where he won the first set over Krish Vennam 7-6 (7-4) but dropped the second 6-2 and fell in the decisive third set by a 10-4 score.
Emiliano Pedrero pushed his opponent Kei Ogawa to a third set as Pedrero dropped the first set 6-4 but came back in the second set winning it 7-6 (7-4), but fell in a highly competitive third 10-8.
The Bombers will return to action on Saturday, March 2 when they travel to Canton, N.Y. for a road match at St. Lawrence University. The matchup is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
