Women’s Basketball Advance to Liberty League Semifinals

ITHACA, N.Y.  - The Ithaca College women's basketball team defeated the RIT Tigers 78-59 at Ben Light Gymnasium earlier tonight in the quarterfinals of the Liberty League tournament. With the win, Ithaca continues on their Liberty League postseason run on Friday in the semifinals at Skidmore College.

The first quarter was an offensive surge from both teams. Camryn Coffey started out with an open three-pointer followed by a good jumper and a good layup. Emma Waite came back with the Tigers hitting two good jumpers and a three-pointer tying the game up 7-7 within the first two minutes. RIT took the lead with Ansley Orrell hitting a three making it a 16-11 game in favor of RIT. Annabella Yorio checked into the game and came out hot going on a 6-0 run by herself. Lila McGuiggan hit a big time three, but Elizabeth Majka had a put-back layup making it 24-23 in a high scoring first quarter all around.

The second quarter was a battle, but June Dickson came out big with a three-pointer making it 29-24. Anya Watkins put back a big layup on a second chance opportunity in the paint, but RIT answered with a layup making it 31-28, Ithaca. Ithaca went on an 8-0 run late in the second. After a 41-31 lead by Ithaca, the Tigers fought back but IC scored last and held the 44-37 advantage.



The third quarter was run by Ithaca's offense with tough finishes from Camryn Coffey, June Dickson and Anya Watkins. Dickson closed out the quarter with a jumper in the paint, then a trey making it a 58-44 game heading into the fourth.

The fourth quarter was used to extend Ithaca's lead, Zoraida Icabalceta came up big late in the game and ended up having six points on the night. It was a well-rounded win in the end, making it a 78-59 game in favor of the Bombers.


Ithaca College shot 43.8% from the field and 71.4% from the free throw line on the night. Ithaca had 42 points in the paint and 13 fast break points. The Bombers bench tallied in 28 points, and Ithaca made the most of 29 second chance points. June Dickson had herself a night with 26 points, and Anya Watkins added in 14 points and 13 rebounds in a double-double effort. Annabella Yorio followed with 12 points and six rebounds.

On Friday, the Bombers will head to Skidmore College for the Liberty League Semifinals in Schenectady, N.Y.
