MADISON, N.J. – The Ithaca women's tennis team opened up its spring portion of the 2023-24 schedule on Saturday as they were in action competing in a dual at Drew University. The Bombers were easily able to handle the Rangers as they swept the competition in doubles play and won five of the six singles matchups.
The Bombers opened up play picking up the first victory of the day with the No. 2 doubles tandem of
Sabrina Cheung and
Kendall Curley holding Courtney Bresler and Riley Roesel scoreless besting them 8-0. Both
Taylor Crain and
Alys Pop and
Ava Casell-Lapetina and
Maddie Sutro at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles respectively, were able to win by 8-0 scores.
In singles action, Crain was uber impressive putting away Melina Christodoulou by set scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
Kendall Curley followed suit as she defeated Mary Kalorin 7-5, 7-5.
Sabrina Cheung earned her first singles win of the season as she competed in the No. 3 slot and defeated Danielle Pettoni (6-4, 6-2).
Ava Casell-Lapetina was also victorious winning by scores of 6-2, 6-2 and
Eliana Chelnick was tested by Riley Roesel as the match went to the extra set, but Chelnick prevailed 6-2, 4-6, 10-7.
Ithaca College (1-0) will return to action in two weeks when they travel to Rochester, N.Y. to take on the University of Rochester at 10 a.m.
