Rochester Pulls Away from Men’s Basketball in Second Half

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Ithaca College men's basketball team was defeated 83-63 by the University of Rochester Yellowjackets on Tuesday night at the Palestra. The Bombers are now 3-2 on the season.

The Bombers got off to a slow start scoring three of the first 12 points, and six of the first 19 points. However, two three-pointers from Aidan Holmes and Logan Wendell sandwiched around a Cole Wissink layup gave the Bombers their first lead of the game 16-15.

The Bombers and Yellowjackets then traded a couple of short runs, including a stretch where the Bombers made three consecutive shots from beyond the arc from Laurence Brady, Chris Leysath, and Wendell.  The Bombers finished the half tied 32-32.

Ithaca got off to a bad start again in the second half. The Bombers allowed the first seven points of the half in just over six minutes, but Ithaca rallied right back scoring six points of their own. Evan Cabral converted on a jump shot as well as the coinciding free throw, and Jaylon O'Neal followed that up with a three-pointer to get the Bombers within one.

After some back-and-forth play, Rochester started to lock down on the defensive end of the ball, allowing them to score nine straight points twice to lead 66-47. This would be the demise of the Bombers, as both teams traded points for the rest of the game with the Bombers falling 83-63.

Logan Wendell led the Bombers with 14 points, and Cabral, Holmes, O'Neal, and Leysath each had nine points in the contest. The Bombers struggled to make their shots all night, shooting 22-for-70 from field goal range and 10-for-34 from beyond the arc (IC made eight 3-pointers in the first half).

The Bombers next game is at home on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Ben Light Gymnasium against Vassar College in their first Liberty League matchup of the season.
