Football Blanks Union, 24-0, to Run Win Streak to Four Straight

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College football team continued to roll with its fourth straight victory and its second shutout of the season as the Bombers traveled to Union College and took down the Garnet Chargers, 24-0, at Frank Bailey Field. Ithaca is now 5-3 on the season and 4-1 in the Liberty League.

Ithaca received the opening kick and proceeded to move up to midfield on a 34-yard return by Jalen Leonard-Osbourne. Three straight runs from Jake Williams, totaling 14 yards, placed the Bombers inside the Union 40-yard line and then Leonard-Osbourne rushed for 14 yards on two carries. On the next snap, Matthew Parker found Ben Marinaccio for a 25-yard touchdown reception with 12:20 to go in the first quarter to give the Bombers a 7-0 lead.

That lead would stand for most of the first half until the Bombers tacked on 10 points over the final three-plus minutes of the second quarter.

With 3:06 to go, Parker connected with Nicholas Lang for a 42-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0. On Union's next drive, Tommy Moran intercepted a pass with 1:28 remaining, which set up Derek Baldin for a career-long 50-yard field goal with six seconds left.

The 50-yard field goal ties a school record set by Matt Sullivan in 1988 and Max Rottenecker in 2014.

Midway through the third quarter, the Bombers had a chance to add onto their lead but an interception at the 5-yard line ended that chance.

With just over nine minutes remaining in the game, Ithaca put the game away with a 15-yard touchdown run from Leonard-Osbourne to account for the 24-0 final score.

Parker threw for 254 yards on 22-of-29 passing and two touchdowns, while Lang caught six passes for 83 yards. Marinaccio caught three balls for 54 yards and Sam Kline had 38 yards on three receptions. Brendan Stapleton hauled in two passes for 33 yards.

Leonard-Osbourne rushed for 41 yards on 11 carries and caught two passes for 26 yards. Williams ran for 39 yards on 13 attempts and made his impact on the game as a punter with seven punts for an average of 39.3 yards, including a long of 52 yards.

Moran led the defense with seven tackles, while Jake Connolly added six stops. Joe Spirra and Owen O'Neill each had five tackles, while O'Neill also had a sack.

IC only rushed for 105 yards in the game, nearly 90 yards below its season average, but the Bombers threw for 271 yards to total 376 yards of offense.

The defense held Union to 231 yards and just 45 on the ground. The Garnet Chargers never reached the red zone and punted nine times in the contest.

Ithaca wraps up Liberty League play next Saturday, November 9 for Senior Day against St. Lawrence at 1 p.m.
