Julia Cascone’s Olimpico Pushes Ithaca Past St. Lawrence

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team hosted St. Lawrence on a beautiful fall afternoon. The match remained scoreless until the 88th minute when Julia Cascone electrified the home crowd with a stunning goal off a corner kick, securing a 1-0 victory for the Bombers. This win keeps Ithaca unbeaten with an 8-0-3 record.

Ithaca dominated possession early, earning the first corner kick just over seven minutes into the match. St. Lawrence then took control, generating their first shot through Grace Mochnal. The Bombers had a dangerous opportunity six minutes before halftime when Julia Cascone drove to the net, but Sarah Sinnott's redirection went wide. The first half ended without any goals.

The Bombers outshot St. Lawrence 13-1, but many attempts were blocked by defenders. Both teams struggled to create chances in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Rosie Bostian's 35-yard shot was saved by Saints goalkeeper Darcie McDonough, and Cascone's shot at the 58:42 mark missed the goal.

St. Lawrence's first real chance came in the 71st minute, but Grace Mochnal's effort was saved by Grace Hickey. The most dangerous opportunity came in the 79th minute when Sarah Sinnott's shot narrowly missed the crossbar. Ithaca pressed hard in the final 10 minutes, earning several corner kicks.

The breakthrough came when Julia Cascone's corner kick deceived the Saints goalkeeper and found the back of the net. It was Cascone's first goal of the season and the sixth of her career.

Ithaca held on for the 1-0 victory. The Bombers will return to action on Saturday, October 12, with a match at Clarkson University at 2 p.m., riding a three-game winning streak.
