ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team picked up a key Liberty League victory on Tuesday evening, scoring a 1-0 road win over RIT. The Bombers saw
Sarah Sinnott score a first half goal and it proved to be enough as they improved to 11-2-3 overall and 6-2 within conference action.
The Bombers were able to breakthrough in the 10
th minute when
Sarah Sinnott was able to find the back of the net for her team-leading 10
th goal of the season. Sinnott was able to gather a rebound that was in front of the goal frame, and she snuck it past the keeper putting Ithaca up 1-0. Ithaca looked to double up its lead five minutes later, but
Reese Ruegamer's attempt sailed high of the target.
Grace Hickey came up big for the Bombers at the 16:04 mark denying Jillian Anstol and recording her second save of the match. Ithaca's backline held strong minutes later blocking a shot attempt within the 18-yard box from Sam Tran. Neither team was able to generate much to close out the first half as each team managed five shots apiece, but IC did have four corner kick chances compared to just one from the Tigers.
Ithaca recorded the first two shot attempts of the second half off the boot of
Kaelyn Fernandez, the second of which forced a save from Emily Sanchez at 51:42. Hickey again stood tall, this time recording a save on an Elena Onodera attempt that was on target. IC would earn a corner kick chance in the 79
th minute and on the ensuing attempt,
Allie McCabe placed a shot on frame that was saved by Sanchez. IC ended up outshooting RIT by a 9-6 margin including 4-1 in the second half.
The Bombers will close out the regular season on Saturday, November 2 when they host RPI for a Liberty League matchup at 2 p.m. The Engineers also are playing on Wednesday against Vassar and have a record of 7-5-2 overall and 2-4-1.
