Women’s Soccer Clinches the No. 1 Seed in the Liberty League Tournament on Saturday

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's soccer team dominated RPI in a 3-0 win on Saturday afternoon as the Bombers returned to Carp Wood Field on the final day of the regular season. With the win, Ithaca clinches the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Liberty League Championship Tournament where they will play the winner of No. 4 Skidmore and No. RIT in the semifinals.

Graduate student Rosie Bostian opened the scoring early in the first half, heading in a goal with an assist from Ava Detorie to put Ithaca up 1-0 in the 10th minute. With the lead and early momentum, the Bombers controlled the possession for the remainder of the half. They outshot the visitors by a 5-2 margin and this was just preview of what was to come in the second half.

Later in the second half, fellow forward Ally Stanton snuck another goal in the net, once again assisted by junior forward Ava Detorie, further extending the Bombers lead against the Engineers, 2-0. The assist was the ninth of the season for Detorie tying her for sixth most in program history within a single season and she is tied for the most within the Liberty League.

Finally, in the 68th minute, Bostian struck again this time connecting on a shot off her right boot into the top left corner that was assisted from junior defender Reese Ruegamer, extending Ithaca's lead to 3-0. With Bostian's second goal of the day, Ithaca maintained composure and control of the game. The Bombers continued to attack RPI's half of the field and kept the Engineer defenders on their toes as the clock wound down.

Ithaca's defense was strong from the start, limiting RPI's possession.  The Bombers outshot RPI significantly, 18-6. IC fired seven total shots on goal compared to RPI who struggled to find scoring opportunities in their latest shutout win. Grace Hickey recorded the win in goal and her 10th individual shutout of the season.

Ithaca finished the regular season 12-2-3 overall. They will take on the winner of RIT and Skidmore on Carp Wood Field on Friday, November 8 with game time TBA.
