No. 20 Ranked Ithaca Volleyball Push Past Vassar

ITHACA, N.Y. – The No. 20 ranked Ithaca College volleyball team secured a 3-1 (25-11, 25-13, 22-25, 25-15) Liberty League victory over Vassar College on Saturday afternoon. The Bombers improved to 14-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play, while the Brewers fell to 2-12 overall and 0-3 in the Liberty League.

The Bombers dominated the first set, racing to a 16-5 lead with key kills from Anaya Prince and Naomi Clauhs. Prince and Sabatier added three more kills, extending the lead to 21-8, and Prince closed the set with another sucessful effort that was assisted by Wesley Slavin, winning the first set 25-11.

In the second set, Ithaca built a strong lead again, highlighted by a 6-0 run capped off by an Ellie Benedict ace, putting the Bombers up 14-4. Maddie Cox's back-to-back aces and a Zoe Strachan kill stretched the advantage to 21-9. Strachan closed out the set with another kill, giving Ithaca a 2-0 lead (25-13).

Vassar capitalized on Ithaca's errors in the third set, opening with a 6-4 lead. IC battled back to tie it at 9-9 with a Josie Hampton kill. Despite an Ellie Benedict ace cutting the lead to 18-17, Vassar reached set point twice and clinched the set 25-22 on an Ithaca attacking error.

The Bombers responded strongly in the fourth set, starting with six straight points, including two kills from Faith Sabatier and an ace from Josie Hampton. Ithaca extended the lead to 14-4 with successful swings from Naomi Clauhs. Wesley Slavin recorded the final kill of the match, securing the victory.

Ellie Benedict recorded a match-high 18 digs and added two aces. Wesley Slavin notched 31 assists, while Maddie Cox finished with 12 assists and two aces. Sabatier led with 11 kills, and Prince and Clauhs each recorded 10 kills.

The Bombers will face (RV) William Smith on the road on Wednesday, October 16 at 6 p.m. Both teams are currently the top two in the Liberty League.
