Strong Third Quarter Helps the Bombers Down RIT on Tuesday

Ithaca, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team defeated Rochester Institute of Technology by a score of 79–52 on Tuesday evening. A fantastic second and third quarter especially on the defensive end of the floor allowed the Bombers to get ahead early and close out the game comfortably in the end.

Anya Watkins 15 points led all scorers with Camryn Coffey following with 13 points. Great team play by the Bombers was displayed all evening long with 17 assists, 19 forced turnovers and 41.5% shooting from the field helped them earn the victory.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle between the Bombers and the Tigers. A tough defensive start for the Bombers allowed RIT to cut the deficit to only two, finishing out the quarter 17-15 in favor of Ithaca. Coffey got off to an outstanding start knocking in the first seven points of the game including a trey that was assisted by Annabella Yorio.

The game remained close in the beginning of the second but a pair of threes from Camryn Coffey and Tori Drevna and a layup from June Dickson increased the IC advantage to 30-23 with 5:40 left in the half. RIT would trail by eight points (37-29) going into the halftime break.

Ithaca came out firing on all cylinders as a 15-0 run and defensive energy took over the game right out the gates in the third quarter. A jumper and a layup by Annabella Yorio extended the lead to 60-34 headed into the fourth quarter. The Bombers halted RIT from scoring for the first seven minutes of the third.

The Tigers made a good effort in the fourth quarter, shooting 40% from the field, but it was not enough to stop Ithaca's offense. An early offensive effort made by Elizabeth Majka, who chipped in six points on the night, helped the Bombers complete the win 79-52 win.

Ithaca College move to 10–2 on the season and 4–1 in the Liberty League. The Bombers will head to the North Country on Friday facing off with Clarkson University for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
