Potsdam, N.Y. – On the frontend of a back-to-back, the Ithaca College women's basketball team nearly had every active student-athlete record a point as the Bombers cruised past Clarkson University on Friday night in a 72-59 win. The Bombers were able to earn an early lead offensively, which ultimately led to a Bombers win in the North Country.
Clarkson came out hot hitting a trey early on, but Ithaca looked to get easy jumpers in order to break down the Clarkson zone defense.
Hannah Polce crashed the glass hard and had an offensive rebound followed by a jumper to start the Bombers off 3-2 in favor of the Golden Knights.
Anya Watkins worked hard in the paint early in the first putting back two foul line jumpers. The lead began to increase in favor of the Bombers when
Jillian Payne nailed a corner three that brought the lead to 11-6. It was a back-and-forth trey game between the two teams with Addie Kea from Clarkson putting back a pair of threes, followed by a
June Dickson three making the lead 14-9 in favor of IC.
Annabella Yorio put back two layups to extend the lead in the first, and the quarter finished out with a deep
Jillian Payne buzzer beating three, her second consecutive buzzer beater as she knocked one down on Tuesday against RIT.
IC stretched their lead with
Annabella Yorio beginning to take over with a layup followed by a jumper to increase the lead to 10 (27-17).
Camryn Coffey got to the line back-to-back putting into the back of the net all four of her free throws. The post-to-post connection was big tonight in Potsdam as
Anya Watkins put back a layup late in the second assisted by
Annabella Yorio.
Avery McPeek put back a free throw to end the quarter 40-24, Bombers.
The Bombers were rolling out of the third quarter hot with
June Dickson putting back a layup followed by a three pointer.
Anya Watkins had a rebound followed by a layup assisted by
Avery McPeek to increase the score 55-32. The quarter ended 60-35 in favor of the Bombers.
The fourth quarter was a strong offensive effort from Ithaca with
Tori Drevna hitting a three-pointer assisted by
Isabella Mittelman.
Grace McNamara had a tough layup late in the fourth to make the score 72-52. The game ended in a 72-59 score with Ithaca coming out on top.
Anya Watkins led the Bombers with 15 total points and 8 rebounds followed by
Annabella Yorio with 13 points for the night. Ithaca shot 51.8% on the night from the field and 42.9% from beyond the arc.
Ithaca returns to action tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, January 13, with a road matchup against St. Lawrence University slated for 2 p.m.
