Men’s Basketball Routs Hobart, 102-77

ITHACA, N.Y. - In the second game of a Liberty League home doubleheader weekend, the Ithaca College men's basketball took on the Statesmen of Hobart College and left no doubt with a 102-77 victory inside Ben Light Gymnasium on January 6. Coming off a close win against Union the night before, the team came out strong and dominated the Statesman to run its win streak to four straight and improve to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in Liberty League play.

The Bombers started off the game hot with early scores from Aidan Holmes and Evan Cabral giving them a 10-point lead at 14-4. Hobart responded with two layups in the paint to make the score 14-8. Triston Wennersten responded with a long jumper with under 12 minutes to go in the half to double up the Statesmen, 16-8.

Andrew Geschickter got hot for the Bombers with a pair of threes and a pull up in the paint with 10 minutes to go in the half, forcing a Hobart timeout. The Statesmen responded with a three out of the timeout to make the score 24-13. However, Jaylon O'Neal and Homles responded for the Bombers with two nice drives to the hoop, putting IC up 28-17. Threes by Logan Wendell and Cabral put the Bombers up 36-19 late in the half. With four minutes remaining, it was a back and forth scoring run between the two teams. A buzzer beater three by Geschickter put IC up 45-31 to end the half.

The second half started off with nice scores from Wendell to further the Bombers lead to 20 points and 53-33. Hobart responded back with a few finishes in the paint and free throws to make the score 55-44. The Statesmen would pull to within eight points at 55-47 on a three, but Cabral put IC back ahead by double figures on the next possession. From there, it was all Ithaca.

A Bryce Bleibtrey and-one extended the Ithaca lead to 62-49. Laurence Brady had a nice sequence which included a three and a put back layup to make it 69-55. Threes by Alex Penders and Wennersten put the Bombers up 12 with under 10 minutes to go. The Bombers would reach a 20-point cushion with just over seven minutes to go and went up by as much as 30 before the final score of 102-77.

Wendell paced IC with a game-high 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting, while Geschickter scored 19 points off the bench. Cabral went 6-for-8 from the field to finish with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Wennersten added 11 points and six boards.
