Offense Struggles as Men’s Basketball Falls at St. Lawrence, 72-47

CANTON, N.Y. - The Ithaca College men's basketball team took on the defending Liberty League champions, St. Lawrence, in a matchup in Canton, NY for the second game of their doubleheader weekend on January 13, but IC struggled offensively and fell to the Saints, 72-47. Ithaca had its five-game winning streak snapped and is now 9-4 on the season.

The Bombers started off with a 6-2 lead from a pair of three pointers made by Aidan Homles. Another three pointer by Logan Wendell put the Bombers up 9-7 with 16 minutes left to go in the half. That was the last score IC had until 11 minutes left in the half. The Saints went on a 7-0 scoring run, putting them up 14-9. From there, IC only scored nine more points in the half, putting them behind 30-18 going into halftime.

The first score of the half was a Gavin Schauder dunk, assisted nicely by Evan Cabral. After a Wendell three pointer, the Bombers trailed as few as eight with 18 minutes left in the half. However, the Saints went on a scoring run that put them up 15 in only two minutes. The scoring run for St. Lawrence did not stop from there. They were up by 20 with only 12 minutes to go in the half.

IC attempted to rally back from this deficit, with nice plays by Jose Padilla, Andrew Geschickter, Cole Wissink, and Alex Penders. The solid offense by the Saints took over for the rest of the game, sending IC into a 25-point deficit with five minutes to go. The Bombers did not score within those last five minutes, with the final score being 72-47, in favor of St. Lawrence.

Ithaca will travel to RIT on Tuesday, January 16 for a 6 p.m. contest, which is a makeup game from the postponement on January 9.
