Ithaca Women’s Soccer Dominate from Start to Finish against Mount Saint Mary

ITHACA, N.Y. – With temperatures once again in excess of 90 degrees, the Ithaca College women's soccer team was firing on all cylinders on Wednesday as they breezed past Mount Saint Mary's shutting the visitors out by a 5-0 score. With the non-conference victory, the Bombers improved to 3-0 this season.

The Bombers had the first clear chance on goal as Kaitlyn Weis was sent through with a great stretching pass that put her one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but Elizabeth Lennane was up to the task saving the shot attempt.

Ithaca continued to pressure within the Knights final third and were rewarded in the 16th minute. Allison Heft hit a long through ball that Ally Stanton got on the end of as she slotted it bottom right corner with a clean finish. That proved to be the lone goal of the half as Ithaca ended up outshooting the visitors 11-0 within the first 45 minutes of play.

It took just under five minutes into the second half for the Bombers to double up on the Knights as this time it was Rachel Hersch capitalizing on a loose ball in the box and she showed her composure finding the back of the net for her first collegiate goal. Ithaca added to its lead at the 65:27 mark as Kaelyn Fernandez pounced on a Mia Medearis shot attempt that was blocked as the sophomore forward chipped it past the Knights keeper.

The Bombers would strike again just over a minute later as solid play within the 18-yard box left Carrie Davis on the byline and she pushed a pass that left Devin Sylvia with a wide open net. The final tally was scored on an own goal as a Mount Saint Mary defender's boot redirected a Jayne Bogle shot attempt from outside the 18-yard box.

Grace Hickey was untested in net as her along with her defensive backline earned their second-straight shutout.

Ithaca College will return to action on Sunday, September 10 when it hosts Lycoming College for a non-conference game at 1 p.m. on Carp Wood Field.
